How to Verify a Chinese Car Exporter Before You Wire Money
Quick answer: Verify five things before any deposit: that the company actually exists and is registered, that the quote names a specific FOB port, that the trim and model year are written down, that unit photos and an inspection report are available before balance payment, and that payment goes to a company bank account matching the registered name. If any one of these is missing, do not send money.
Why this matters
The most common loss in China car importing is not fraud in the dramatic sense — it is a buyer wiring a deposit to a contact who turned out to be a broker with no inventory, no inspection capability and no documentation pipeline. The car arrives late, in the wrong trim, or not at all.
Verification takes an hour. Recovering money across borders takes years.
The pre-payment checklist
1. Identity and registration
- Ask for the registered company name in Chinese and English
- Confirm the bank account name matches the company name — a mismatch is a hard stop
- Ask how long they have been exporting and in which markets
- Check whether they have a real web presence with consistent contact details across platforms
2. The quote itself
- Port must be named. "FOB China" is not a quote. "FOB Nansha" is.
- Trim and model year must be specified. Same model, many trims, big price differences.
- Validity period stated. FX and freight both move.
- What is included: packing, container stuffing, which documents.
3. Evidence of real inventory or real access
- Photos of the actual unit, not stock images from the manufacturer
- For used cars: dashboard photo showing the odometer
- Willingness to do a live video walkaround — this is the single fastest filter
4. Documentation capability
Ask which documents they produce. Standard set for vehicle export:
- Commercial invoice
- Packing list
- Bill of lading
- Certificate of origin
- Export customs declaration
A supplier who cannot list these has probably never shipped.
5. Payment terms
- Standard practice: T/T bank transfer against a proforma invoice, deposit first, balance before loading
- Pay to the company account, never a personal account
- 100% up front with no track record is a red flag, not a term
Five red flags that should end the conversation
- Personal bank account for a company transaction
- No port named in the quote
- Pressure to pay today with a discount that expires in hours
- Refusal of a live video walkaround of the actual unit
- Contact details that change — new WhatsApp number, new email, new "company" each quarter
What a legitimate exporter will do without being asked
- Send unit photos and an inspection report before balance payment
- State the shipping term, documents and validity period in writing
- Explain how the car will be packed and loaded
- Tell you honestly when a spec is not available for your market
- Answer in your language — serious exporters serving Africa and the Middle East work in English, French, Arabic and Russian
Key facts
- Pay only to a company bank account matching the registered name
- Insist on: named FOB port, written trim, validity period, document list
- Require unit photos + inspection report before balance payment
- Standard payment: T/T against proforma invoice, deposit then balance before loading
- Standard documents: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin, export declaration
- A live video walkaround is the fastest way to confirm a real car exists
Why dealers buy from the sourcing end
KT AUTO sits at the supply end of the chain, not in the middle of it:
- Manufacturer and dealer channels inside China — new vehicles quoted from factory-linked supply, not from someone else's list
- Nationwide sourcing — we search across China for the exact brand, model, year and quantity you need
- Inspection before your money moves — photos and a report on the actual unit before balance payment
- Export documentation handled in-house — invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin, export declaration
- Loading supervised at Nansha — the physical step brokers never see
- Exporting since 2024, serving dealers in Algeria, Morocco, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Russia, Tajikistan and the UAE
- Enquiries answered in English, French, Arabic and Russian
